The comedian has a unique opportunity in the fight for justice. He or she (or any other identifying pronoun) can say exactly what they please. They can warp our sense of situational judgement so that we laugh first and think later. It’s an emotional slight of hand. A joke within a joke. A reminder that in the right situation, the same energy we are entertained by can be shifted ever so slightly to alter our reality.

Joe Hill, a Harlem native, has been a part of the festival for three years. In 2017, he was a guest judge and in 2018 he hosted and produced the event. This year he is looking forward to doing the same while representing Harlem and enjoying all of the shows.
